The Toronto Party: 2010 Election platform

The Toronto Party is developing a comprehensive policy for the 2010 municipal election. The basic policy is set out below. A more detailed policy booklet will be produced during the 2010 municipal election.

TAXES and FEES

We will repeal the motor vehicle registration tax

We will repeal the municipal land transfer tax

We will repeal the by-law requiring the payment of a 5 cent fee for plastic shopping bags

MUNICIPAL GOVERNANCE

We will make the delivery of core services the primary focus of City Hall

We will decrease councillor office budgets to no more than $30,000 per annum

We will restrict spending from office budgets during an election year

We will impose term limits on the Mayor and Councillors

We will re-examine the need for 44 councillors 

We will evaluate the structure of council to ensure it meets the needs of the citizens and businesses
